Maxwell Street is a dynamic and diverse congregation of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A., dedicated to serving its 650 members and downtown neighborhood. Maxwell Street is a place where people - both those whose faith is new and unsure, and those whose faith is already well nurtured - continue to learn about, develop, and deepen their relationship with God. When are worship services? Service is at 10:30 AM.
How can I meet more Maxwell Street members?
Visitors are welcome at all of Maxwell Street’s fellowship activities. Please join us for punch after each service in the parlor at the rear of the sanctuary, or come for dinner, offered most Sunday evenings at 5:30 PM in Fellowship Hall during the fall, winter and spring.
Where can I park?
Designated visitor parking spaces are located in the church’s main parking lot. If the main lot is full, free parking is available on Sundays in the lot directly across Maxwell Street, or in the Samaritan Hospital employee lot, accessed from our main parking lot through the rear gate or from Martin Luther King Blvd.
What music programs are available?
Our music program is led by Clif Cason, with voice and handbell choirs available for ages three through adult. As a part of the children's program Orff, handchime and hymn study are offered in addition to vocal training. The music ministry is also committed to mainstreaming children with learning disabilities into the choir programs.
Is there a campus ministry group?
Yes, our campus ministry is led by Kyle Brown. Students from all area campuses are encouraged to make Maxwell your church home while at school. Activities include weekly discussion groups, and several social events during the semester. Transportation for all functions can be provided. Please contact Kyle through the church office at 255-1074.
What programs are available for youth?
Maxwell Street has dynamic and growing Middle School and Senior High Youth Group programs, run by Youth Director Pete Jones and the Middle School Group is run by Kyle Brown. In addition, Maxwell Street hosts a Boy Scout troop.
Where do I take my childen for childcare or after the children’s greeting?
Nursery and childcare is available Sunday mornings from 9:30–12:15 in the Early Care Center (ground floor). At the 10:30 AM service, children of all ages are encouraged to attend church with their parents. Following the children’s greeting, 3–5 year-olds may attend Preschool Children’s Church downstairs in Room 101, K–1st grade children may go to Room 102 for Godly Play Children’s Church. Second and third graders may go to crafts across from fellowship hall on the ground floor.
What kind of Sunday School and Christian education does Maxwell Street offer?
Maxwell Street offers a diverse and multifaceted Educational Ministry program for its members and visitors, young and old. Sunday School morning classes for adults and children are offered year-round. A directory of Sunday School rooms is posted next to the elevator in the education building.
